War in the Pacific: Admiral’s Edition for PC is the first expansion pack for War in the Pacific a turn-based strategy game, which offers a journey back to World War II depicts the Pacific portion of war, i.e. the conflict between Japan and the States.
### Mechanics
Admiral’s Edition introduces many novelties to the game, such as smaller hexes – one such part of the map now represents 40 miles of terrain instead of 60. Decreasing the scale of the map allowed the creators to implement more important objects (bases and such) in the game. New ship classes were added to the fleets of both countries; the ship management has also been remodelled.
Among the new features, the player will also find a system of waypoints, which allows them to set a patrol zone for instance, or create routes for convoys (with an option to return the same way). Certain modifications were applied to ship upgrades: one is now able to change the class that particular units belong to. For example, an American “flush decker” destroyer ship can be converted to a transport vessel (APD), a seaplane tender (AVD), a minelayer (DM) or a minesweeper (DMS). Harbors as such were also altered in this expansion, for a realistic limit was placed on the number of ships coming in. The amounts of cargo received and repairs made were limited as well. In the latter case, the player was given more control over the process.
War in the Pacific: Admiral’s Edition for PC also introduces changes and improvements to air battles. Those have become more realistic, especially when it comes down to damage, plane repairs, and the so-called casualties. The expansion brings over 500 aircrafts, barrage balloons, new liveries for planes, or an ability to set the number of aircrafts a squadron consists of. When it comes to ground combat, 8 new kinds of terrain were added, which gives 16 in total. Also, vehicles have more statuses now, such as combat, moving, etc.
In terms of gameplay, Admiral’s Edition brings an extensive campaign, as well as five single scenarios which differ in the size of the presented theater of war. Noticeably, both campaign and said scenarios recreate the initial stages of certain historical events (locations of the forces belonging to both the sides of the conflict). What actions do they take and how they influence the course of the conflict later on in the game, depends entirely on the player.
