The Victorian Admirals series is an attempt by the Totem Games development team to bring players closer to the realities of the struggle for dominance on the seas at the end of the 19th century. However, the creators did not use authentic events, but hypothetical scenarios of conflicts between the then powers.
In Victorian Admirals: Panama Incedent the struggle takes place in the Latin American region. The unsuccessful attempts of American mediation in the Pacific War strengthened Chile’s position. When the United States occupied Colon in 1885, the Chilean government decided to occupy Panama and send warships to force the US fleet to evacuate.
The main campaign consists of a series of missions, the main element of which are spectacular sea battles. The player plays the role of the Admiral and leads a fleet of different types of vessels. The key to victory is the proper use of their basic assets, such as artillery fire range, armour strength, speed and maneuverability.
Despite the ahistorical scenario of the game, the models of ships appearing in Victorian Admirals: Panama Incedent were reproduced on the basis of authentic ships from the end of the nineteenth century and with fidelity to many details of their construction (e.g. steam boilers, sailing, metal covering of hulls). This has also translated into the visual layer, which is particularly eye-catching in this element.
