Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts is a strategy game in which players assume the role of an admiral commanding a large fleet of warships that belongs to one of the world’s major superpowers. The game offers realistic naval battles and an extensive story campaign set between the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The game was developed and published by Game-Labs studio (creators of Ulimate General: Civil War and Naval Action).
### Mechanics
In Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts players assume the role of an admiral who commands a fleet of warships belonging to a nation of one’s choice (including United Kingdom, Germany, France, the United States, Japan, China, Austria-Hungary, and Russia). Players’ task is not only to command the units during the battle, but also to prepare them for battle and make various strategic decisions, such as deployment of the ships across the map and the composition of the fleet.
Developers even allowed players to design their own ships. For this purpose, they can use a powerful, but intuitive editor, which allows them to modify individual aspects of the unit (such as the thickness and resistance of the plating, engine, and water absorption potential ) and the location of various elements. Created ships can belong to one of several classes, such as Battleship, Battlecruiser, Heavy Cruiser, Light Cruiser, Destroyer, and Torpedo Boat.
During the battles, the game resembles a classic RTS (Real Time Strategy) production. The artists focused on realism, which results in, among other things, faithfully reproduced ballistics. Depending on the specific historical period, in addition to visible enemies, players often have to pay attention to a number of hidden threats, such as mines and submarines. Also the weather plays a very significant role in all this.
### Game modes
Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts offers only the single-player mode, which includes a story campaign that takes place on a map divided into many larger and smaller regions, reminiscent of what players may know from the popular Total War series (the strategic layer has been somewhat limited here, but one can, for example, form alliances).
In the game, players can also find Naval Academy free game mode, where they can fight single battles against enemies controlled by the in-game AI. The creators have prepared a number of missions, which are an independent challenge, but also teach the player individual mechanics (Naval Academy is also a kind of tutorial).
### Technical aspects
Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts has attractive three-dimensional visuals. Special attention should be paid to realistic water reproduction, as well as very detailed designs of individual ships, which should please every modelling fan. Ships are composed of a large number of elements, are of the right shape and size, and resemble their counterparts from the real world.
