At the end of their first adventures, Lisa and Alex were sent back several
decades into the past after entering the mystical portals known as the Gates
of Fate, landing in the late seventies and late eighties respectively. Now
they both must work together to return to their own time, with Lisa writing
clues and storing equipment for Alex.

The Treasures of Mystery Island: The Gates of Fate is a hidden object game
combining some elements from traditional point-and-click adventure titles,
with simple puzzles created with the casual audience in mind. Most of the
time, the objective is to find and collect all the pieces of a series of items
displayed at the bottom of the screen. After being reassembled, these objects
have to be dragged and dropped on specific portions of the scenery to perform
an action or complete a task. The hint button at the bottom-right corner shows
the position of one of the required pieces when activated, but takes some time
to recharge after use.

Mini-games appear occasionally, taking place on a separate screen with a self-
contained puzzle where the player has to directly manipulate pieces or
mechanisms to solve them. These include variations of concepts implemented in
several other games, like a Pipe Dream clone with bomb circuits, a picture
puzzle with pieces of a shredded newspaper, and other similar challenges.
