Summary

Set during a single, endlessly-looping day within “The Sexy Brutale” – a stately English mansion converted into a bizarre casino and named by the enigmatic Marquis – players take on the role of elderly priest Lafcadio Boone. To progress, Boone must hide, watch and learn the colorful stories of the other guests at the ball in order to save them from grisly deaths at the hands of the mansion’s staff.

By discovering the key moments and methods how each guest can be saved and gaining occult seeming powers linked to their masks, Lafcadio is able to explore deeper and deeper into the mysteries of the mansion’s past and inhabitants to uncover the truth hidden at the heart of The Sexy Brutale.

Story Line

“The Sexy Brutale” is the Marquis’ renowned grand casino and residence. He is well known for his highly anticipated annual masked ball and his eccentric taste in friends. But something truly evil has found its way into the heart of The Sexy Brutale during this year’s party, turning the ball into a nightmare where the guests are being murdered with no hope for escape.

As the story unfolds in real-time, the player must find answers to every enigma and end the loop, saving all the guests’ lives.

This is a puzzle-adventure game in which players help a priest save the guests of a mysterious mansion. From a 3/4-overhead perspective, players traverse each room to discover the means to save guests and unlock additional powers (e.g., time travel, lock picking, second sight). A handful of sequences depict instances of violence: a woman hung inside a bell tower; a man incinerated in a furnace; a man shot with a rifle. Characters emit splashes of blood when injured, and blood is occasionally depicted pooling under dying characters. The game includes some alcohol references (e.g., “Huh…. maybe I've had too many!”; “Someone's been having a sly tipple on the job!”; A character named “Tequila Belle”), and one character appears drunk as he consumes alcohol.
