The Famous Five: Dangerous Discovery
_The Famous Five: Dangerous Discovery_ is the fourth game in Ravensburger’s
Famous Five series after the books of Enid Blyton for ages 7 and up.
Julian, Dick, George, Anne and the dog Timmy are again at Kirrin Cottage
during the summer holidays. An old acquaintance of Uncle Quentin, Mr Brown, is
lodging at the cottage. He is an archaeologist who has found a possible Rome
settlement. Mr. Brown has left for a couple of days to go to the world’s fair,
and of course the five can’t resist to take a peek at the excavation. They
find a vase that seems to be from Roman times. But they also find two men
sleeping in the hut during the day, and during the night someone with a
flashlight is wandering around at the dig site. In a shaft nearby they hear
strange knocking sounds. The five are determined to find out what is going on
at the dig site and to solve the mystery.
The active characters are George or Dick. They execute the actions and carry a
backpack that holds the inventory items. A hidden menu at the left bottom
corner of the screen gives access to a travel map, a main menu and an options
menu (in the English edition). The latter includes options to switch on or off
hot spot names and dialogue text. Dialogues can be skipped using the Escape
key. In the original German edition the player can switch between German and
English. The game directory includes a hint file.
