The Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel
Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel is an adventure game based on the sci-fi detective
novel of the same name (1970), also known as Inspector Glebsky’s Puzzle , by
the Soviet Russian authors Arkadi and Boris Strugatsky. The player takes the
role of inspector Peter Glebsky, who just wants to have a nice holiday in an
isolated mountain hotel, but is eventually compelled to solve a mystery about
a vanished mountaineer who supposedly haunts the hotel.
The whole game is set in said hotel. The gameplay offers the usual adventure
gameplay: the player explores the hotel, takes items, talks to the other
guests and solves item based puzzles. There are also a few (mostly optional)
mini games, e.g. darts, pool or action sequences, and logic puzzles, e.g. the
player has to choose his dinner components so that no one of the other guests
makes fun of him. Some sequences are in real-time, meaning that the player has
to wait for next script to happen. The game uses the established one-click
controls.
