Steel Fang was created in close cooperation with two Japanese electronic entertainment giants, Capcom and Sega, a dynamic action game whose plot was set in the typical realities of science fiction. The mechanics of the game is similar to many well-known (and liked) console titles, such as Devil May Cry series. It should be noted, however, that the game contains elements specific to PeCet products, such as multiplayer mode supporting up to six people. Steel Fang is mainly focused on the Japanese market, but its production is entrusted to a strictly defined section of Capcom, which in the past became famous thanks to the game Resident Evil: Code Veronica.
The right action is observed from the perspective of a third person. The player takes on the role of the well-known science-fiction cyborg, i.e. a robot in human skin. The actual fun was basically directed to multiplayer, namely deathmatch – classic (all at all) or team games. There can be up to six player-controlled cyborgs on the board. The character in the course of the game uses a variety of futuristic weapons (mainly laser weapons). It should also be mentioned that each character has an additional guardian who takes an active part in battles. More importantly, however, the guards allow the player-controlled cyborg to reappear after the player’s death. In order to win, one needs to deprive enemies of their personal “bodyguards”, so that after a possible death they are unable to be reborn again. On the other hand, the player must protect his own guard. This introduces some tactics to the game. Singleplayer is not very complex and is actually a warm-up for further online struggles. The battles are fought in a quite diverse environment – inside huge bases, but also under the open sky. The character control system is based on the already mentioned Devil May Cry, which the authors themselves do not intend to hide. Due to the slightly complicated control, PeCet owners should buy an analogue joypad. The range of behaviours of the controlled character is relatively extensive. The cyborg can jump sideways and stay in the air for a long time thanks to the built-in motors that are placed on his back.
Steel Fang visuals look quite interesting. Anime enthusiasts will certainly be interested in famous personalities who actively assisted in the production of the game. The authors asked Kazutaka Miyatake, who specializes in moss projects (gigantic bugs), and Yutaka Minowa, among others, for help. This man has in the past designed most of the characters for another console production – Vampire Hunter. The graphic itself resembles one of the most famous titles of Segi – Phantasy Star Online. It is also worth mentioning that the game is characterized by relatively low hardware requirements.
