Starborne is a 4X MMORTS with support for up to 2492 concurrent players in its current alpha incarnation. It is a blend of Civilization and Hearthstone. The Hearthstone aspect is because Starborne will be free-to-play and operate on a card-based system. Cards can be unlocked through completing missions, drops from NPC forces you’ve defeated, or through in-game purchases, but Icelandic developer Solid Clouds has said everything will be earnable through normal gameplay. Cards will perform a range of tasks, including upgrades for stations and fleets, new avatar pictures, special bonuses, hiring mercenaries or trading bonuses.
