Star Blaze
HQ relies on mercenaries to do space fighting. It seems that the Theta sector
has become overrun with Glaarck spaceships. Choosing an experienced pilot,
Theta assigns the mission of entering the Theta sector and destroying all
hostile forces. The planet Retulla lies somewhere within the sector and is
suspected to be a base for the enemy forces.
Star Blaze is a side-scrolling arcade shooter that can be played by one or
two players on the same screen. The game consists of four episodes, the first
of which is given away as shareware. The episodes each contain six levels
including a final level against an enemy boss. Players begin by purchasing a
ship and weapons, each with their own capabilities, from the $10000 they are
given. Additional money is earned during battle by shooting enemy forces as
well as collecting debris left behind during the explosions. In battle, the
player is able to move anywhere on the screen, firing their weapon(s). A
status display monitors energy consumption by the weapons as well as
protective shield and hull values. The shield will reduce damage inflicted to
the hull by enemy projectiles or obstacles. If the hull is destroyed, the
player’s game is ended. As a result of the player needing to buy their
weaponry, few power-ups exist during the level. However what can be found are
power-ups to to repair hull or shield strength as well as additional guns
attached to the top of the player’s ship. Bonus debris can sometimes be found
floating in various locations which will earn more money.
