- Music & Graphics
- Fun & engaging level-design
- Super-fun bosses
- Bonus Stages are a bit overpowered
- Levels are a bit short
Now this is how you do a Sonic on 8-bit consoles!
The level design isn’t too busy or difficult to make it fair for Game Gear players.
You can play as either Sonic or Tails where Tails acts as some sort of easy mode! (You cannot get any chaos emeralds with him however)
Bonus stages are fun and easy to access (maybe too easy but that’s a nice change of pace honestly) and the levels are different enough of each-other and have unique ideas like a spring vehicle without putting the fast-paced design to a halt.
Levels are kinda small but it’s a small price to pay for fun level-design!
And they finally figured out how to do bosses right using Sonic 2’s template of using Giant Badniks as bosses really works well here and you can finally hit them multiple times, making them a breeze if you’ve mastered the controls!
I personally think it’s the best 8-bit Sonic game and I’d recommend it to anyone! The final level is kinda hard but the difficulty progresses nicely so it’s not a deal-breaker.
