SolSeraph is a strategy game in which we play the role of Helios, the Knight of Dawn, whose task is to rebuild human civilization and protect it from the attack of younger gods, sending various threats to humanity. The game was made by ACE Team studio, known mainly for such titles as absurd Rock Of Ages, Deadly Tower of Monsters or Zeno Clash.
### Plot
Chaos reigned at first, but thanks to Mother Earth and Heavenly Father it was possible to subjugate it and replace it with a world created by it. Thus came into being the seas, lands, vegetation, animals and people. After completing their work, the two said they would leave it to themselves and leave. However, other younger gods in the world did not like the human being, especially since the human being, unlike them, was endowed with the ability to tell stories. Because of their jealousy, the wicked deities sent various defeats and threats to people in the form of bloodthirsty monsters. Helios, the Knight of Dawn, defended the little ones. By playing his role, we have the task of restoring humanity and protecting it from jealous gods.
### Mechanics
SolSeraph focuses on the gameplay that combines several elements, but the main focus is on the aspects of tower defense strategy game combined with platform action game. A similar concept has been used in the cult ActRaiser.
Strategic elements observed from above (it is more convenient for Helios to observe and make decisions from this perspective) are connected with the development of urban settlements and construction of buildings so that they can repel the enemy’s attacks and provide the inhabitants with a prosperous life. It is up to us to decide which building is critical at a given moment – food farms or barracks recruiting new soldiers, archers and so on.
However, if the situation proves too difficult for our security buildings and our troops, we can take matters into our own hands and go ashore to deal with the attacking creatures. This is connected with the second key element of the game, which focuses on the action observed from the side. There are traps, dangerous creatures and their nests in front of us, and mysterious fog. However, Helios, thanks to his good sword fighting skills, use of the shield or archery, is well prepared for it. Especially since with every nest destroyed and every jealous god killed, he grows stronger and gains new skills.
### Technical aspects
SolSeraph is a three-dimensional title based on a graphic design, which resembles the times of 16-bit classics, with sprites in the style of modern cartoons.
Yuzo Koshiro is responsible for the soundtrack of the game. We could hear his compositions in several parts of Streets of Rage, and Jonas Kyrazes, associated mainly with the game The Talos Principle.
In the beginning, there was only Chaos...
...as far as the eye could see; until one day, Sky Father and Earth Mother drove the Chaos away and made the world. They made the stars and the sun and the waters and the land. And then they made plants and animals, and finally, their favorite creation: humankind.
When they were done, Sky Father and Earth Mother left the world, so it could grow freely on its own. But the Younger Gods were arrogant and cruel. They resented humans because humans had been granted the gift of storytelling; the gift of memory. So they tormented humankind with fires, storms, and floods, until all the tribes were scattered across the land, struggling for survival.
But Helios, Knight of Dawn, the child of god and man, came to humanity's aid...
