SingStar
SingStar is a karaoke game in which the player(s) sing along to a music
video. The basics are still the same: player(s) sing into a microphone and the
game gives points based on the performance. The only basis of assessment is if
the correct note is hit with the correct timing; the sung words or octave does
not play into the result.
The main difference to the previous SingStar editions is that the karaoke
application itself can be downloaded free of charge. However, it is not
possible to use it (outside of a few short sample songs) without buying songs
via micro-transaction.
While it is still possible to use an old microphone which was sold together
with previous SingStar editions, it is designed to be used with a
smartphone. By downloading an external application (compatible with Android or
iOS), it becomes a microphone.
Originally this version removed most multiplayer modes known from the
predecessors. The only available modes were battling another player (local) or
sending a friend a highscore to top (online). Party mode returned in a later
update (December 2015) with five game modes: Pass the Mic (players alternate
in singing parts of the song) and Pass the Medley (players alternate in
singing chorus of different songs) are for four players in two teams and
Medley (chorus of five different songs), Micro Medleys (short section of eight
different songs) and First to the Post (however reaches one million points
first, wins) are for two players. Additionally players can set up tournaments.
