Shantae 5
### Mechanics
The game was built on the foundations of the previous installments. Shantae 5 is a classic two-dimensional platform game in which players explore maps, avoid traps and threats, collect items, and fight enemies with a whip.
Shantae 5 represents metroidvania subgenre. This means that the maps have a largely open structure. During the game, the heroine collects experience points that allow her to unlock new dances to transform into new forms of the beast. Each of them has unique abilities that allow players to reach map sections that were previously unavailable.
### Game modes
Shantae 5 offers a single player mode only.
### Technical aspects
In terms of visuals, Shantae 5 follows the formula of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. The character models are two-dimensional, while the locations are mostly three-dimensional, but they are made in a cartoon-like style, so that all elements blend well with each other.
Shantae and the Seven Sirens finds Shantae and her friends on vacation at Paradise Island, where they encounter other Half-Genies, and Shantae is invited to the Half-Genie Festival. However, she soon discovers that things are not as they seem as the other Half-Genies are kidnapped. It is left to Shantae to explore the ancient Sunken City and overcome its treacherous labyrinths to rescue the other Half-Genies and find out they were abducted. Along the way, she discovers new dance abilities and instant-transformation Fusion Magic, and battles the mysterious rulers of the Sunken City, the Seven Sirens. However, she also ends up encountering her longtime nemesis Risky Boots, who seeks a mysterious treasure said to reside beneath the island.
