Seafight – Pirates is a production for web browsers, combining cRPG with economic and arcade elements. It is an interesting proposition for fans of such items as Sid Meier’s Pirates! or Sea Dogs.
In Seafight, the player takes possession of a small, poorly armed sailing ship, which develops for money gained during travels in virtual seas and oceans. As the success continues, it gains access to new elements of the gutter, as well as the ability to build a real fleet, often made up of large and powerful ships.
Before going on a distant sea voyage, the participant gets acquainted with the numerous attractions offered by the port, and then goes to check the ship – get acquainted with the crew, browse the equipment, as well as go to the armoury, where they are supplied with weapons (heavy cannons, sabres for crew members, pistols, etc.).
In Seafight, however, the most important are battles, which are fought in two ways – by choosing an artillery duel in which the ship’s strength and fire potential play a key role, and by leading to direct contact between the ships and an attempt at boarding, the success of which depends on the training and equipment of the pirates. In the first case, the battle usually ends with the escape or sinking of one of the ships, but if there is a melee battle, the attacked ship is usually plundered.
The chance of victory in individual sea battles is increased by hiring specialized crew members (e.g. captain, observer, doctor or cook). The player can also freely modify various parts of the sailing ship – such as strengthening the stern or mounting higher quality sails.
