Safe Cracker
Safe Cracker is the fourth in a series of pinball simulators from Software
Illusions.
This is a three reel slot machine simulator based on the British style of
fruit machine. It pays out when three identical symbols appear on the centre
line. The player starts with twenty five credits which is equivalent to £6.25
and each spin costs one credit or £0.25p. The maximum jackpot is £15 with an
80% payout rate, which is about standard for the old machines that used to be
in the pubs and clubs and is still common in UK seaside arcades.
Game features include random nudges, reel holds, a bonus feature as well as
the main ‘Safe Cracker’ feature. Some symbols have numbers on them and when
these appear on the central line a light moves up a trail on the right hand
side of the game screen. When the light stops on 4 or on 9, which is the top
of the ladder, a bonus feature is triggered.
The main bonus feature is triggered when a ‘Full Trail’ is achieved, i.e. when
all the lights in the ladder are lit. The game screen changes to a bonus board
bonus which consists of a central square with a safe in it. Around the edge is
a trail through which the player advances by spinning a counter. As they move
around the trail each square they land on has a purpose, some may trigger a
feature, increase the existing win, cash out with the existing win, or lose
everything.
The game runs in a window and documentation explaining the controls and how
the features work can be accessed via the menu bar at the top.
