Roots of Tomorrow is a video game designed to learn about solutions offered by agroecology to manage a sustainable world for future generations in a fun and practical way. It’s also a tool to imagine new transition scenarios for future farms.
## About This Game
Roots of Tomorrow is a turn-based management and strategy game about
agroecological transition.
It is a real-time 3D rendered game.
The gameplay mechanics and scenarios are designed in collaboration with actors
from the agricultural world and scientifically directed by the INRAE.
You play as a farmer who wants to transition their farm from conventional
farming to a more sustainable agriculture over the next 10 years. To do so,
you have to reach specific goals in economics, social and environmental
matters. Multiple scenarios are available, based on various farm types in
France.
These scenarios are located in specific French regions and each features
different productions (mixed cereal crops, sheep and pig farming, etc.)
Roots of Tomorrow’s goal is to raise awareness about the need to manage
transition to sustainable agroecological models.
It is about using the power of video games to serve a major society issue.
The game is suitable both for professionals and for the general public.
For professionals, Roots of Tomorrow serves as a tool to imagine the future of
their farm and try out multiple conversion scenarios. For the general public,
Roots of Tomorrow is a playful way to learn about the actual challenges that
the farming community faces in order to better support them to manage this
agroecological transition that concerns us all.
It is our ambition to inspire future farmers as well as inviting city-dwellers
to change their perception of agriculture, to understand its complexity and
diversity.
