PlayStation All-Stars
Just like PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, _PlayStation All Stars Island_
is a franchise crossover game that combines various properties owned by Sony.
The game is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and is only available in
selected European countries to promote the Coke Zero soft drink. Next to
various advertisements in-game, Coke Zero is also part of the gameplay. In
each of the games various drops of coke can be collected to fill a bottle in
the top right corner. When full, it can be tapped to play one of two mini-
games (unique for each game). The game contains several games that involve
racing or are of the endless runner type.
The content was updated gradually, but as of 2015 it consists of four games.
They are set on the titular island where all of them can be selected right
away.
Gravity Rush: Infinite Skies
This endless runner game stars Kat from _Gravity Rush_. She needs to collect
crystals while running automatically to score points. By using swipes in the
main four directions, Kat alters gravity to cling to that part of the
environment. The player has to time carefully as swiping her in a direction
without a surface causes her to die immediately as she disappears into the
void. There are also sections where she flies through the air and needs to be
steered by tilting the device. There are enemies that can be taken out to
collect drops of coke, but this can only be done by swiping in the correct
direction as she passes them, based on the position of the enemy. The first
Coke Zero mini-game is a 2.5D platformer similar to the _LittleBigPlanet_
games and with the same visual style. Kat needs to switch gravity to keep
running and collect crystals. In the second mini-game she is on the other side
of Jak’s hoverboard and the screen needs to be tapped to raise the board and
collect crystals.
inFAMOUS: Survival
This endless runner game stars Cole MacGrath from the _inFAMOUS_ series. He
uses his electrical powers to defeat enemies and defend the city. He has a
limited amount of charges shown in the top left corner. By tapping enemies and
incoming missiles on the screen he uses a charge to take them out. By tapping
and holding, certain objects can be grabbed and held, and are then flung away
– defeating enemies and recharging the electrical powers in the process. In
the first Coke Zero mini-game he is attached to the bottom of Ratchet’s
hoverboard using an electrical beam. By swiping left or right he can be moved
to collect objects. In the second mini-game SackBoy hands him stickers he
needs to attach to targets, done as the player taps the screen.
LittleBigPlanet: Epic Race
This is a kart racing game starring SackBoy from the _LittleBigPlanet_ series.
He races on a single track with several paths and keeps going, reaching
checkpoints to extend time, until he runs out of it. He collects orbs to earn
points and drops of coke to fill the bottle, passes other racers, uses jump
pads to reach a different route and picks up a jet pack for a rocket boost.
Steering is done using two virtual buttons on each side of the screen, but
tilting the device can also be used in addition to powerslide. By keeping a
virtual button pressed for a certain amount of time a boost is activated. In
the first Coke Zero mini-game SackBoy rides a track with Cole MacGrath and the
player has to use his powers to switch lanes. In the second mini-game SackBoy
is carried by Nathan Drake as he parachutes down and he needs to be steered to
collect orbs.
Uncharted: Drake’s Pursuit
This endless runner game stars Nathan Drake from the _Uncharted_ series. He
has been captured and needs to run through a jungle environment to escape. He
runs automatically and can be moved left and right by tilting the device. He
collects coins and swipes upwards and downwards are used to jump over objects
or slide below them respectively. As soon as he hits an object the game is
over. In the first Coke Zero mini-game he joins Kat and swipes are used to
flip gravity and move between two planes to collect coins. In the second mini-
game he joins Ratchet and Clank to bounce on top of several large platforms to
collect coins.
Next to the four main characters Jax & Daxter (Jak & Daxter series) and
Ratchet & Clank (Ratchet & Clank series) make an appearance in several mini-
games. There are various types of trophies to earn as well as coke points,
used to activate boosters that for instance provide an extra life or very
large coke drops. Coins can also be earned by challenging or inviting Facebook
friends.
