Pathologic: The Marble Nest is a teaser of the 2017 remake of Pathologic.
It is essentially a spin-off or an alternate version of the main game’s story,
created using the assets from the main game. The players find themselves in a
remote Russian steppe town suffering from terrible plague. The only playable
character available is The Bachelor – a doctor sent by the government to stop
the plague. He has one week to accomplish this. The Marble Nest takes place
during one day of this week – Saturday – and the players have to deal with the
consequences of actions that have happened before. The knowledge of the
original Pathologic game is advised to understand the meaning of bizarre
events and imagery.

This demo, devoid of many mechanics of the main game (combat, karma system
etc.) is essentially an adventure game of “walking simulator” variety. The
players need to visit certain areas of the map talking to other characters and
advancing the story, while the time flows regardless. Many containers may be
looted for items and food. Some doors may be unlocked only with keys acquired
through dialogue or with lock picks traded from children. The players need to
keep track of the hunger and infection parameters. The game ends at the
sunset.
