Owl Country
Owl Country is a collaborative effort between different indie developers
who came together at the Game Developer’s Conference in March 2008. The game
combines a number of inside jokes from the developers and the TIGSource
website that involve owls and monocles.
The game is described as a swoop-em-up. The player controls an owl who has to
rid the city of Montreal of the devilish pigeons who swarm the city. At the
same time, the owl wants to deliver a message to humans to have its race
respected. The player controls an owl against a city landscape. The pigeons in
the air can be attacked using swoops – dives that hurt the pigeons and cause
them to drop down on the humans below (rewarded with an extra life). Swoops
need to be recharged and successful attacks or combos are rewarded with points
and additional levels. While flying, the owl needs to dodge lampposts that
electrify the creature. After levelling up a few times, the owl is able to
perform longer to continuous swoops, in circles moving downwards left or
right, and powering up to achieve a larger radius of attack.
The owl starts with five lives. After levelling up, more pigeons appear and
the game becomes faster.
