In the year 2020, the world is in a state of turmoil as a result of the ruinous Second Depression that caused nations around the world to collapse under economic pressure. In this global regression, the world is engulfed in civil war, and chaos is the only thing people can be sure of in this world.
The main character of the game is “Thy”, an emotionally scarred 19-year-old with a shady past. Living in dystopian America, he lives his life as a recluse in the industrial zone of an undisclosed city. As a means to vent his emotional vexation, the boy often indulges in the ecstasy of the underground fighting pits that have spawned in areas all over the world for people to fight and forget the world they live in. These fighters are known as “shapes”. Thy’s teenage years have been with the mere intent of survival; often having to move from one place to the next. His life, however, has not gone overlooked…
One day, Thy wakes up to find himself in a completely foreign land.
He doesn’t know how he got there or why — this is a mystery both the player and the character must figure out as a plot of subterfuge unfolds.
After discovering a device planted on him (a futuristic cell phone variant with GPS capabilities), Thy soon realizes that he’s in the fallen nation of Japan. Not long after, Thy gets taken over by a symbiote-like creature (this creature will have an effect on gameplay in some form).
Thy is torn up by these recent events, leading to shades of his past coming back to haunt him. The psychosis that develops as a result of these memories is only intensified upon meeting a certain stranger that acts as a kind of ‘Guardian Angel’ towards him. This stranger bears a striking similarity to Thy’s brother, Nirvan, who was brutally killed before his eyes as a child. His childhood was shattered by many other events that followed; incidents that we learn about in the story through playable memories and dreams of Thy. But is this mysterious stranger really his brother?
Back in the real world, Thy must try to overcome his psychological struggles in an effort to escape Japan. But whilst there, he is drawn into a bitter war secretly waging between powers that transcend his comprehension. Thy soon discovers that a large part of his dark history is loosely connected with these surreal events that are transpiring before his very eyes.
Thy discovers that the symbiotes are in fact a man-made creation, and the first step in trying to control humanity and ending all war and suffering — these efforts are led by a group in Japan known as “The Knights”. But the question is: does their ambition justify these means? If things aren’t bad enough, two other organizations lurk in the shadows attempting to pull strings — each with their own stake in the events transpiring.
As the fate of humanity reaches the crossroads, Thy is stuck in the middle. What happens next is for the player to decide.
