Nick Naster’s eXtinction
The entire galaxy is threatened by a virus epidemic, which transforms humans
into alien controlled mutants. This worst case scenario is called
eXtinction.
But there is hope. Some scientists developed a vaccine. But the world where it
was developed is now completely under the control of the mutants. That is the
part where you, or better say Commander Nick Naster, pilot and special agent
of the Earth Forces gets involved. Since he is immune to the epidemic, he’s
the ideal candidate for infiltrating this alien controlled world and salvaging
the vaccine.
eXtinction is a classic 2D platform game in a 3D environment (characters,
enemies, the look of the level itself). You are controlling Nick Naster, or
one of the four other heroes you can choose from, moving him through six
different zones, each with 5 levels. Since the game itself is only 2D, you can
only move left or right. Nick (and the others) can’t even jump, but that’s not
necessary, since he is carrying a rocketpack, so you can fly.
In order to go through these levels, you must find your mission objectives
(levers, computer terminals, etc.) and activate them, to get to them, you must
find keycards, which will open the colored energy barriers. On your way to
them, you encounter self-firing cannons, mines, and, of course, lots of bad
guys, who want kill you (including a boss at the end of each zone). So, kill
them first with your 9 different weapons, partly futuristic and non-
futuristic, like the Uzi, Machine gun, Bio Cannon, Magman Launcher, Photon
Launcher, and other.
In each level are Power-Ups, which will help you through that level. These
are: Health, Energy Packs (for your Rocketpack), Regeneration (regenerates
both health and energy), Damage Amplifier, and Slow Motion (reducing game
speed by 50%).
