The Two Colonels is the first feature expansion to the FPS entitled Metro Exodus. The plugin was developed by the authors of the basic version of the game, i.e. 4A Games studio.
### Plot
Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels takes place in Novosibirsk, almost a year before Artem and his team visited the city. The main character is Colonel Chlebnikov, the father of little Kirill. The underground bastion of mankind is gradually collapsing – not only is the green substance providing its inhabitants with radiation protection beginning to run out, but it is also constantly being attacked by hordes of mutants. To ensure the survival of his son and other survivors, the protagonist goes on an expedition, hoping to find a way to survive the colony.
### Mechanics
In Metro Exodus: The Two Colonels, the authors provide us with a linear stage. When wandering through claustrophobic locations, we must be constantly on guard, because the danger in the form of mutant creatures can lurk at every step. However, the hero is not defenceless and his chances of survival are increased primarily by a powerful flamethrower that can wreak havoc with his enemies (provided that we have fuel for it at the moment).
### Technical aspects
The audio-visual setting of The Two Colonels presents a high level known from the basic version of Metro Exodus.
The Two Colonels, is that of Colonel Khlebnikov, just below the surface, under the dead city of Novosibirsk, as he makes his way home to his son, Kirill, for New Year’s Eve.
But all is not well with the people here: the slime is further consuming the tunnels, mutant attacks appear to be on the rise and the precious ‘green stuff’ that protects the people from radiation poisoning is running low. In order to secure the survival of any of the people, those in charge may need to take drastic measures…
Following the journey and experiences of Khlebnikov during the last days of life in Novosibirsk, which Colonel Miller retraces a year later, players can expect the classic story-driven gameplay of the Metro series in this new linear chapter, complete with a brand new weapon, the deadly flame-thrower, claustrophobic environments, and the all-too-familiar hair-raising tension.
