Left in the Dark: No One Onboard
In Left in the Dark: No One on Board the player takes the role of detective
in the nineteenth century that receives a letter to help out the harbor town
of Port Providence. The town has a unique investigation with ships loaded with
goods that once they leave port are later found adrift and abandoned with no
crew or cargo onboard. Upon arrival at Port Providence the local authorities
talk of a curse that is decades old. The story also includes some haunting
tale of a fire that an entire family perished in long ago. Skeptical from the
folk lore you take the case and begin by examining one of the recent abandoned
ships that was brought back to harbor. The ship review is quickly interrupted
when you encounter a hooked figure that clearly wants to prevent your
investigation and eliminate you. While on board you also encounter some
paranormal apparitions of a little girl who is somehow link to these strange
events.
The game interface mechanics provide a hybrid approach of graphical adventure
with on screen movement touch points, puzzles and hidden-object search style
game play. Objects collected in inventory at the bottom of the screen require
the player to drop or drag them onto other items in the scenes to activate or
complete needed tasks for progression. Hidden object scenes are somewhat
traditional with word objects at the bottom. Some scene objects must be
opened, moved or used to finally reveal the object to be found. Objects
requiring this function are listed in a gray colored text.
