Layton: Curious Village in HD is a refreshed version of the adventure game released in 2007 on the Nintendo DS console. The title has been enriched with improved graphics and controls adapted to mobile devices. The Japanese studio Level 5 (known, among others, from the jRPG Dragon Quest series) is responsible for the development of this title.
### Plot
The game tells the story of an archaeologist, Professor Layton, whose life passion is to solve various kinds of puzzles. The game starts shortly after Layton receives a message from Madame Salome from a wealthy Linford family. The woman asks the hero for help in finding the fortune of the late Alan Linford. The professor accepts the proposal and sets off on a journey with his assistant, a boy named Luke.
### Mechanics
Layton: Curious Village in HD is a classic point & click adventure. Gameplay in this game consists in exploring new locations (we can move around both the Linfords estate and the town where it is located), conversations with encountered characters, collecting items and solving puzzles – there are over 100 tasks of different levels of complexity (represented by the number of points we receive for them – from 1 to 99). The puzzles were prepared by Japanese psychologist Akira Toga – author of popular books from the “Head Excercises” series.
### Game modes
Layton: Curious Village in HD has a single player mode only.
### Technical aspects
Layton: Curious Village in HD looks quite unusual. Artistic style is clearly inspired by popular French comics and cartoons such as TinTin. The creators also took care of an atmospheric, appropriately subdued soundtrack. It is worth noting that the HD version dedicated to mobile devices works at a higher resolution than the original version on Nintendo DS. In the game you will also find completely new animated scenes.
