Lamp the Vamp is a roguelike mobile game with a vampire in the lead role, created by the Paris-based GlobZ studio, known for its Mucho Party and TwinSpin. The production, released in a premium model for Android devices, was inspired by another excellent representative of this genre – Hoplite.
In Lamp and Vamp you take control of a vampire who is looking for a castle of his dreams. The way to the destination is not covered in roses – in order to make a dream come true, the hero has to break through a number of levels, located in a world that is not very favorable to bloodthirsty people. Success requires him to climb to the heights of dark skills.
The game consists in traversing procedurally generated levels. On each of them the player tries to reach a safe place before he loses all his life energy – in Lamp and Vamp the coffin plays the role of a shelter. The task is disturbed by guards and other hostile units (e.g. priests) walking around, equipped with weapons and lamps that illuminate the immediate surroundings. The game is divided into rounds.
Life energy is lost not only in direct combat, but also by staying in the fields illuminated by lamps. The situation can of course be improved by attacking opponents and consuming their blood, although it is usually too risky to make up for losses. Mainly because in order to insert teeth into the victim’s neck, this must be done from hiding (i.e. staying in a shady field). When there are more enemies on the boards, this is a challenge.
From time to time the player gets the opportunity to improve vampire statistics, as well as his vampire skills (e.g. transformation into a bat, allowing to jump over several fields, or disappearance into fog, neutralizing the negative impact of light on the vampire’s health). It is worth mentioning that the use of the latter involves the loss of a certain number of life energy points. The whole thing is served in attractive, but simple 2D graphics.
