Kung Fu Superstar is an innovative attempt to combine an action game with learning eastern martial arts. The originator of the project is Kostas Zarifis, who was previously employed at Lionhead studio to produce such titles as Fable III and Fable: The Journey. Encouraged by the positive opinions of Peter Molyneux, among others, he decided to leave the company and create his own development team – Kinesthetic Games.
The main character of Kung Fu Superstar is Danny Cheng. A young adept of eastern martial arts would like to become the new Bruce Lee. Achieving the status of an action movie star, however, is not easy and requires many hours of practice in a small milking parlour.
The game was designed for players who would like to learn the basic techniques of kung fu. The protagonist trains martial arts and then takes part in film battles, where he fights opponents.
The creators decided to use the technical capabilities of the Kinect motion controller, thanks to which the player has the opportunity to make his own blows based on kung fu. However, for less active and accustomed to traditional control systems, a gamepad is foreseen.
The Kung Fu Superstar visual setting is maintained in a cartoon style convention. Noteworthy are elaborate animations of character movement enriched and a large variety of film sceneries, in which fights are played out.
