Island Realms
A group of sailors is stranded on an archipelago after their ship was attacked
by an hostile vessel. They start gathering and using the natural resources
available to survive and eventually escape the place.
Island Realms is a strategy game that combines ideas and concepts from
several genres, but is inspired mainly by time management titles made for the
casual market. The game screen shows an isometric view of the terrain, that in
the case of large islands can be scrolled sideways to reveal the full
extension of the territory. Each level is one of the islands from the
archipelago, where the objective is to collect all the required resources and
store them inside a wagon, to transport the goodies by crossing the bridge
over to the next isle.
The player has indirect control of the worker units, and can only assign
waypoints for tasks on buildings and other facilities. The settlers move
autonomously, moving on the paved roads and executing jobs or carrying
resources as they become available. Some of the streets lead to building
sites, where the production facilities can be constructed after acquiring the
blueprints from the shop screen. The player can also sell to the shop some of
the production, or combination of resources, for gold coins. A list of the
required resources to start construction, or to leave the island can be
displayed by placing the cursor over the building sites or the wagon.
Variations of gameplay are slowly introduced on later levels. On some islands,
there are enemies that from time to time exit from a tower to roam the
streets, stealing resources and breaking the paved roads. They can be
temporally stopped by placing an idol statue on strategic points, and in some
cases by erecting a wall surrounding the fortress and cutting their access to
the rest of the island.
