Gwent: Novigrad is an add-on to the Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, a card game set in the universe known from the Witcher RPG series, based on a novel by Andrzej Sapkowski, a Polish fantasy writer. The production focuses on Novigrad, the merchant city that appeared in Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. Developers from the Polish CD Projekt RED studio are responsible for creating this title (authors of, among others, the cycle The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077).
### Plot
Gwent: Novigrad plot background revolves around the title free city, full of both opportunities and dangers.
### Mechanics
Novigrad introduces more than 90 new cards to the game. 15 of them concern existing fractions (3 for each). The others are connected with another novelty, i.e. the sixth playable “army”. It is the Syndicate, an organization which was established thanks to the association of all the gangs of the title merchant city. Of course, the underworld also has its leaders – among them the bloodthirsty Cleaver, the elusive King of Beggars and the dangerous Novigrad hierarchy, Hemmelfart.
In addition to the Syndicate, the expansion also introduces a few more keywords and mechanic. The most important are the Crowns – we obtain them by activating the cards with the keywords Profit or Crimes and by destroying the units for which the Prize was awarded. The money can then be used to activate the Fee skills, which may include summoning units.
Among other new mechanics we will find Intimidate (units are strengthened when you commit a Crime), Capital (abilities that we can play with a specific number of Crowns that do not use this money at the same time), Insanity (we can play the abilities of cards marked with this password even if we are not able to pay Fees).
### Game modes
Gwent: Novigrad can only be played with others. The basis of the game is the online multiplayer mode.
### Technical aspects
Gwent: Novigrad does not introduce any significant changes in the graphic design of the basic version of the game. So we get two-dimensional graphics, which is based primarily on nicely illustrated cards. The artistic style of this production reminds us of what we know from Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. In the expansion we will find, of course, a number of completely new images.
### Other information
Just like the basic version, Novigrad was released in a free-to-play model, which means that we can download it completely free of charge.
