In the year 1986, Tommy Vercetti is heavily indebted to his mafia superiors after a drug deal gone awry, but his dreams of taking over Vice City (based on Miami) push him down a different path. Featuring a wide variety of vehicles, unique radio stations playing hit songs from the era and an intense atmosphere, GTA: Vice City offers valuable insight into the excess and mob life of ’80’s Miami.
Welcome to Vice City. Welcome to the 1980s.
Having just made it back onto the streets of Liberty City after a long stretch in maximum security, Tommy Vercetti is sent to Vice City by his old boss, Sonny Forelli. They were understandably nervous about his re-appearance in Liberty City, so a trip down south seemed like a good idea. But all does not go smoothly upon his arrival in the glamorous, hedonistic metropolis of Vice City. He's set up and is left with no money and no merchandise. Sonny wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters, and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Most of Vice City seems to want Tommy dead. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself.

Game Analysis | Vice City draws much of its inspiration from 1980s American culture. Set in 1986 in Vice City, a fictional city modeled after Miami, the story revolves around Mafia member Tommy Vercetti, who was recently released from prison. After being involved in a drug deal gone wrong, Tommy seeks out those responsible while building a criminal empire and seizing power from other criminal organizations in the city. | |

The PERFECT length for a GTA game
Pretty low-key on the epciness of the storyline
Everything about this game is a solid improvement over GTAIII: better story with far more interesting and diverse characters, more enjoyable city to explore with side-missions that feel fleshed out, and a soundtrack that kicks the pants off of pretty much every other GTA since it’s just hits of the 80’s. The only thing that really holds this game back is the shooting controls- they SUCK so bad, especially when you’re trying to shoot INDOORS- this wouldn’t really improve to an acceptable level until GTA4 in my opinion and makes the older entries so cumbersome to play with regards to running and gunning. Otherwise, this game is a fantastic on pretty much every front.
