With a cast of hundreds, 50 plus vehicles, ranging from sports cars to ice cream trucks and from boats to buses, 3 hours of music, including opera, reggae, house, drum and bass, pop and disco, a huge array of street ready weapons and some of the seediest characters in video game history, Grand Theft Auto 3 is a sprawling epic which will show you that sometimes, crime can pay and sometimes it can pay you back. Available now for PlayStation®2, Xbox, PC and Macintosh.
You've been betrayed and left for dead. Now you're taking revenge, unless the city gets you first. Mob bosses need a favor, crooked cops need help and street gangs want you dead. You'll have to rob, steal and kill just to stay out of serious trouble. Anything can happen out here.

Game Analysis | GTA III is set in modern Liberty City, a fictional metropolitan city. The game follows a nameless criminal who was betrayed by his girlfriend in a bank heist, and is required to work his way up the crime ladder of the city before confronting her. GTA III is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters, and like its predecessors, implements sandbox-like gameplay, where the player is given the freedom to explore a large city, complete missions, commit criminal acts, or complete side missions. | |

Groundbreakingly innovative for the time
The story for dumb with almost no build to an epic conclusion
Ultimately, time has not really been kind fo this once amazing and innovative step forward in gaming. Nostalgia for it seems to underplay how rudamentary the controls and setting are, along with the fact that the characters are probably the most chilched and barebones you could possibly ask for, though voice acted fairly well for the time. It had a lot going for it in terms of making a bold leap forward for open world games, but in retrospect so much of it was limited and has been done SOOOO much better in later iterations that this game ends up being a relic of a time long past. Also, the radio stations get super annoying and repetative after a short amount of time. Fun, but super dated at this point.
