Ghost Train
Ghost Train is an action game for one or two players, created in a week for
a Halloween-themed contest on the Czech website Velkej Chytr ak. It is
Halloween night, and crowds of children come out of the house to gather candy
scattered around the level. One of the players controls Samhain, the “lord of
Death”, whose goal is to scare the kids and keep them from getting any candy.
The kids are controlled by the computer, or the second player.
The first player controls the “symbol of Samhain”, which can be directed by
clicking the mouse to drag it towards or away from the cursor. By touching the
cauldron in the middle of the level, the player gathers ghosts which follow
the symbol obediently. The player can leave a ghost on guard by touching a
piece of candy or a pumpkin. When a ghost is near a piece of candy, it keeps
children from taking it, instead scaring them away. A ghost near a pumpkin not
only scares all kids who get near, but also lights up the pumpkin, allowing
the player to see an area which would be hidden in the darkness. Ghosts left
behind fade and disappear with time.
The children’s house is constantly moving along the screen’s boundary and
occasionally releasing new kids. A second player can join in at any time and
choose to control the house, moving it around the screen’s edge with arrows,
and releasing children with Space.
The game lasts a limited time. Once the game is over, the player with the
higher score wins. Samhain gets score by scaring children, while the kids get
points by gathering candy.
