Take command of the last surviving fleet of humankind in Fragile Existence, a sci-fi RTS with fully 3D planet surfaces and vast solar systems to explore. Dispatch expeditions to find resources, build settlements, construct vital parts and supplies, and evolve your technology to meet new threats.
## About This Game
The year is 2713. When Earth is attacked by a crushingly hostile fleet of
unknown origin, and the Near Earth Territories are left in all but ruins, the
last remaining ships carrying what little is left of humanity must find a way
to put aside their old disagreements and discover the means to survive out in
the harshness of space, pursued relentlessly by an enemy that seems determined
to wipe us from the face of the galaxy.
## You are the fleet commander
Take command of the fleet as you direct a course from system to system,
exploring the worlds you come across to find the resources that your precious
passengers need to stay alive and well. Engage in ground expeditions by
dropping units to the planet surface, in a completely seamless interaction
between ships anchored in orbit and the ground environment itself.
Explore unknown worlds, build temporary settlements and set up defensive
positions to combat local factions and survivors who take issue with your
presence on their planets, or mistake you for the invasion force itself. Mine
an assortment of ores, before refining them into materials and parts which can
be used to fabricate the things the fleet needs to keep going.
## Manage physicalised resources and personnel
Free space aboard the fleet is a luxury, with modular components, docked
units, passengers, crew, and numerous resources vying for each unit volume of
space. Strip out un-needed components and re-purpose existing vessels with
your current objectives in mind. That warship might need to lose its armaments
to make more space for farming gear or hydroponics bays, whilst that pleasure
yacht might need to make room for an ammunition factory.
People are perhaps your most vital resource, with skilled workers needed to
crew or man specialised components, and new workers trained to help boost the
efficiency of installed modules throughout the fleet. Fighter craft require
pilots, whilst construction projects enlist the skills of engineers. Marines
are needed to man shipboard weaponry and ground units. Scientists can be
allocated to research projects, with a discovery-based research system
enabling you to flesh out the research paths of your choice once you have
enough samples to work from.
## Anchor up and dispatch expeditionary forces to the surface
Dispatch dropships loaded with embarked ground vehicles to the ground surface,
then direct units using conventional RTS controls, navigating the environment
to find supplies, salvage material or even other survivors. You’ll come across
some not-so-friendly elements too, so you’ll need to build defensive positions
and settlements for your workers to refine and fabricate the parts and
equipment that can’t be performed aboard the fleet vessels themselves.
Engage in ground and space warfare, with limited ammunition and specialised
unit types built from modular components to best fit your current needs, or
the specific needs of the planet environment that presents itself. Ships in
orbit can support ground forces, and ground-based units with the right
weaponry can engage space targets overhead.
## Establish ground bases and gather vital resources
Build bases in a similar manner to traditional RTS titles, with engineer units
placing foundations and awaiting delivery of the required materials before
construction can take place. Connect buildings with pathways and power nodes
to enable their functionality and the delivery of available material supplies.
Add drone hubs to speed up resource gathering and repair tasks, or to explore
the local area.
## The clock is ticking
Sooner or later the enemy fleet will find you, and they are nothing if not
relentless in their pursuit. Every time you enter a new system the clock is
ticking down before they inevitably catch up to you again. Make the most of
the time you have, then do what you can to slow their advancement towards your
positions whilst you finish up any surface expeditions, evacuating any ground
units and supplies back up to the fleet.
Recon the next system jump points in advance, then choose the best candidate
to jump the entire fleet towards before its too late, in a non-linear story
campaign that begins amongst the remains of the human colonies in the Near
Earth Territories, but leads far beyond currently explored worlds…
## Modding support
Players can create their own solar systems through the System Editor, and
construct planets with the Planet Editor. Planet generation couples the
flexibility of procedural generation alongside the hand-crafted placement of
features, resources and other points of interest. Player-created systems can
be brought together through the Scenario Editor, which will allow players to
create interesting stories, enemy placements and event triggers through a
node-based scripting system; and all of this achieved from within the game
itself.
