Everlands
Everlands is a turn-based strategy game where the titular world has been
invaded by sinister forces. The game takes place on a field with hexes where
two players, or the computer and a player, take turns deploying animals that
can attack each other. When an animal is defeated, it is revived and fights
for the other side. A game is over when all hexes are filled and the player
with the most influence wins the game.
The available animals are shown at the bottom of the screen. Each animal has
health points (green) and attack points (yellow). Animals can only attack in
specific directions, marked by small yellow arrows in one or more of the six
possible directions based on the sides of the hex. A large part of the game’s
strategy is based around deploying animals in positions where they can attack,
but other animals cannot defend. Attacks can also only be done to adjacent
hexes. Animals always defend first, if that is possible, when a new animal is
deployed next to it. When one is defeated, it changes colour to the opposing
side and can fight once again. Attacking and defending is done automatically,
the player only deploys the animals.
Next to the different attack directions, health and damage, each type of
animal has a unique ability. A bear receives an additional attack point when
wounded, a leopard is able to attack first, a hedgehog can attack in all
directions, an owl is more powerful against weak animals, a kiwi can lay an
egg that takes over a free cell, a rat becomes more powerful when there are
other rats on the field, two bees can be deployed at once etc. In the game’s
story mode new levels are unlocked one after another and new animals are
introduced regularly. The game supports head-to-head multiplayer on a single
device.
