In a single round of Equator, both players are given an array of numbers and mathematical symbols. Using what they have been given, each player must independently create a math calculation which both result in the same answer. For example, one player creates “7 – 4”, and the other creates “1 + 2”. Because these both result in 3, the players are able to move onto the next round.
Players will usually need to communicate to proceed, reading out numbers and sharing ideas to reach an agreeable solution – and later on they can even swap numbers from each side of the planet! Social collaboration like this helps learning stick.
Equator rewards complexity, and using more maths symbols and bigger numbers results in players being rewarded with more “Leaves”, the game’s own native currency. Leaves are used to buy hats and costumes to dress up the player characters, with more extravagant costumes costing more leaves to buy.
