Eden’s Quest: The Hunt for Akua
Eden’s Quest is essentially a puzzle game similar to the ones in the
Professor Layton series, where the objective is to solve a series of separate,
self-contained challenges to complete the story. The player assumes the role
of Eden Hunt, a famous world explorer that decides to fund her next expedition
project by entering a mysterious competition for ten million dollars taking
place on a remote island.
The puzzles can be accessed as totems scattered around the scenery, bringing
up a screen split vertically between a larger interactive portion at the left,
with brief instructions and hints listed at the right side. Shining hotspots
on the scenery contain coins, that can be collected and used to buy hints at
the challenge screens. There are three levels of hints, each getting
successively more explicit than the one before. The puzzles are varied, with
mathematical questions, logic riddles, and in some instances mechanisms that
have to be manipulated directly to solve them. Wrong guesses decrease the
number of points received when finally getting the correct answer.
After solving each totem, the player receives a piece of a tangram puzzle,
that must be assembled at the end of each chapter to open a new zone and
continue the game. The gates to each part of the island are closed with a
electronic lock, and must be opened by completing their own puzzle, where the
objective is to move blocks inside a box to create an exit path for a
circuitry piece.
