The thing happens in Tirich, a small village located somewhere in northern Europe. A young witch named Ecstatica falls into a coma trying to bring a cruel demon from another dimension. However, the monster from hell is moving to Earth and is going to make our planet a bloody bathhouse. The first goal is, of course, the inhabitants of Tirich. As you can easily guess, only a hero who does not know the fear can save us from the Holocaust of the whole planet. Who will be it? Of course, you are the player….
Ecstatica is a thrilling adventure and skill game of the survival horror genre, in terms of technical solutions very similar to the Alone in the Dark series. Both there and here you observe the action from a dozen or so cameras, often located in the strangest places. In addition to walking and running, you can also inflict blows and pick up items. There are relatively few of the latter in Ecstatica, in addition, our heros can carry only two things at once (in the left and right hand). The scenario is not linear, so we can explore the village according to our own vision. You have to say clearly: the game is not the easiest one. Every now and then we are chased by various monsters, which cannot be killed in the basic way – you can only weaken them and use the favourable moment for escape. That’s why all the nooks and crannies have to be used successively: hide in sideboards, cabinets and similar assortments. Purely adventure elements are equally difficult. In the game there is a minimum number of dialogues, there are no descriptions at all, so even if we manage to find an item, it is difficult to see where we can use it.
From the graphic point of view Ecstatica presents a rather innovative solution: all characters are made of ellipsoidal solids. Although it may seem strange at first glance, this game is just perfect for this game. The music is atmospheric and perfectly emphasizes the heavy and psychedelic climate. The game is very brutal, every now and then we meet dismembered villagers, and the monsters are still pasturing over those who were not lucky enough to die quickly. If you add to this the fact that in this product, as in any other of that period, feel the honor and impotence of the main character, you can really feel like in some survival horror movie.
