Doko Demo Yoga is another proposal of Konami for Nintendo DS portable console, which is not a typical video game. Just like Dream Skincare, developed by the company at about the same time, it is a very practical and aesthetic guide for health-conscious people, prepared mainly for the Japanese market. The game title can be translated as “Yoga for every occasion”, and the main content of DDY is a set of animated asanas – yogic positions – which we can rotate the style so that we can look at the model posture from each side.
For each asana there is an appropriate time, which is counted down on the screen. You can also observe and learn which muscles work with which asanas. But yoga is not just about exercise: it’s about the whole philosophy and organization of life, from the moment of awakening to the moment of sleep (and also the best sleeping positions). So if you want to play yoga seriously, get ready to wake up no later than 7.00 a.m. and follow the rhythm of the day, meal times and exercise. Even if you happen to be in the office or school at 6 p.m. (which is not surprising in Japan), for this particular hour you get a set of exercises to do with the support of e.g. a chair.
Doko Demo Yoga rewards you for your efforts in working on yourself. Along with learning more secrets of yoga, we gain titles (Naga, Krishna, Ganesha, Vishnu, Shiva). The visual setting of this item may not present the peak of the Nintendo DS console, but it cannot be abandoned either: these animations perform their function, and the menu is clear and intuitive. Due to the unusual nature of the game, this item is for one player only.
