Dogs Playing Poker
The second most popular piece of American artwork (behind only the velvet
Elvis) is now a computer game. This poker simulation pits the player against
up to five canine opponents in four different environments from the standard
“parlor” to Fido’s Casino. Choose opponents from 18 different 3D pooches
including one that looks suspiciously like a cat wearing a sign that says
“dog”. Each dog has their own play style, body language, and personality that
the player can learn to read.
The underlying poker program offers five different game types: 5 card draw, 5
card stud, 7 card draw, Texas hold ’em, and Omaha hold ’em. There are a huge
variety of wild card options to choose from ranging from standard games
(deuces wild) to exotic ones (baseball) and the betting can be configured from
small scale fixed amounts to high stakes, no-limit free-for-alls.
