DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora is another flight simulator, issued under the popular DCS: World module. Created in 2012 by Eagle Dynamics, this platform integrates all games released within the Digital Combat Simulator series, allowing the pilots of different machines to have fun together.
This time in the sphere of interest of the creators was a single-seater, single-engine German fighter Focke-Wulf Fw 190. This popular low-wing aircraft from the period of World War II was produced in the years 1941-45 in more than 20 thousand copies and several dozen (!) different versions, and one of the most famous was the D-9 model, commonly called Dora. Airplanes of this type were used not only by the air force of Germany, but also by France, Turkey, Hungary and the Soviet Union. A large number of machines acquired by the Allies during the war (USA, Great Britain) were used for comparative flights and research on the technologies used in them. An interesting fact is that in the years 1996-2007 about 20 replicas were created, which in almost 98% was consistent with the original design.
In terms of mechanics DCS game: Fw 190 D-9 Dora is in line with the standards created by previous versions of the series. So we get a technically advanced, sandbox flight simulator, in which the most important element is the realism of the simulation. During the game we will have to fight mainly with American fighters P-51D Mustang, which was at the end of World War II the main rival of Focke-Wulf. In addition to a number of missions prepared by the authors and intended for both solo and multiplayer play, we have at our disposal a traditional, extensive editor, allowing us to create further scenarios based on the conditions and parameters we have defined.
The Fw 190 construction is reproduced in every detail in the game. Its most important element is, of course, the six-stage cockpit operated with a mouse, which provides complete freedom of movement. Fully animated landing gear and elements such as flaps, ailerons and ballasts are clearly visible on the outside of the aircraft. Of course, the realistic reconstruction of armament, engine, communication systems or several variants of the original painting of the airplane was not forgotten. The advanced flight model is based on foundations, created for Su-25 and developed in subsequent products of the series, such as A-10C Warthog or P-51D Mustang. The title provides full support for a wide range of game controllers and works with the Steam VR interface, using, among others, virtual goggles Oculus Rift.
