Despite the criticism, Chernobyl: Terrorist Attack, released in 2011, has achieved considerable popularity on the Russian market. This encouraged the publisher – Play-publishing company and Toruñ’s development studio Silden to prepare a fully-fledged continuation.
Chernobyl 2: Return to Zona takes place shortly after the events presented in the first part. It turns out that stopping terrorists from destroying the protective sarcophagus around the remains of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant reactors has not ended the problem. In fact, the actions of the bombers were only meant to divert attention away from the main purpose, which was to obtain the radioactive materials needed to construct the so-called dirty bomb. Captain Yuri Ryakov is once again facing a threat to the world. This time, however, he can count on the support of Fedor Strushyn.
The main campaign in the game consists of 10 missions located, among others, in Ukraine and Iraq. The arsenal of weapons available to the player includes 9 weapons – from pistols, through assault rifles to sniper rifles. Vehicles and helicopters can also be used during the struggle against terrorists.
Chernobyl 2: Back to the zone is based on the proprietary Argon 5 engine. However, the quality of the audio-visual setting clearly deviates from modern standards in FPS games and indicates the low-budget character of the production. Thanks to the publisher’s efforts, the title has been provided with a full Polish language version (dubbing). At the same time, it is worth noting that in March 2013 in electronic distribution (Steam, Desura) an “export” version of the game called Chernobyl Commando was released.
