Celestial Vale
Celestial Vale was a pet simulation game that focused on breeding
mythological creatures and entering them into competitions, similar to real-
world animal shows. Another prominent activity was collecting every color and
species available.
Pets encompassed such species as dragons, unicorns, nekomata, and other
fantastic animals from an array of world mythologies. Gameplay revolved around
adopting these animals and training them through a variety of methods to raise
stats such as strength and intelligence, and eventually raise their level to
increase stat caps. Pets could then be entered in competitions appropriate for
their general level range; there were five competition types, and each species
had their own set of advantages and disadvantages. Competing would gradually
make a pet hungry and unhappy, so pets needed to be periodically fed and
played with.
The breeding system was key to both obtaining rare colors and raising better
competitors. Two color inheritance systems were used over the game’s lifespan;
one involved simple percentage rates of passing down a parent’s or
grandparent’s coloration, while a later system gave each pet its own unique
and mostly hidden DNA sequence. Stat inheritance allowed the offspring of high
level, well-trained pets to start off with higher potential for stat growth,
meaning a properly trained infant could eventually surpass its parents.
Two types of basic currency could be used to purchase food, toys, stat
boosters, and items that could be given to quest NPCs for semi-random rewards.
A premium currency called hearts could be purchased with real money, and used
in turn to obtain rare pets, rare items, and account upgrades.
