Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons is a tactical action game based on a popular science-fiction television series of the same name, first broadcast in the UK in the late 1960s. The author of this cyclic show, Gerry Anderson, used a specific technique of puppet animation and interesting special effects.
The storyline layer consists of five extensive episodes and takes us to the year 2068, when the Earth is threatened by immaterial beings called Mysterons (they can replicate and then use for evil purposes any living organism or machine). The only right defenders of humanity are the members of the paramilitary organization Spectrum – including the title indestructible Scarlet Captain and Colonel White and Lieutenant Green.
In each of the fourteen implemented scenarios (rescue missions, spy missions, etc.), a unit composed of a maximum of six agents (they have different offensive and defensive capabilities and not only), representing the above mentioned institution, is placed under the command of the user. Developers took care of a large variety of virtual environment – from the foggy port, through the ice-stricken refinery, to the airborne base. Furthermore, in the action we see a number of characteristic ground and flying vehicles, as well as a pleiad of various opponents (e.g. robbers of tombs and partisans from the jungle). The whole is complemented by detailed audio-visual effects and three levels of difficulty.
