## Description

_Au Pays de Vocabulon_ translates as “In the country of Vocabulon” and is a
French educational title designed to teach vocabulary via the medium of
‘Shockwave’ mini-games done in a cartoon-like style.

The evil professor Charabia has built a machine which is chomping its way
through letters and leaving the world devoid of words. The only way to stop
him is to go to the islands of Vocabulon and place a bomb in the machine which
is hidden deep inside his lair.

The player explores the islands which have dozens of locations ranging from
underwater to outer space, Inca temples, African villages, south sea islands,
Red Indian wigwams, the Arctic/Antarctic and more. Each location has its own
hot spots, the majority of these are little animations, some are small puzzles
which reveal the way out of the screen or pave the way to the next location,
others uncover the professors traps. When the traps are uncovered the
professor appears and sets a test, If the player passes the test then they are
rewarded with a letter which may, or may not, help them complete their code
word. Once the code word is complete they have access to the professors lair,
provided they can find it, where they play a conveyor belt game in order to
plant the bomb. The game ends with a short animation sequence showing the
professor escaping his base just before the explosion after which the player’s
score is shown and they have the option of producing a diploma.

There are eighteen different tests and three difficulty settings. The tests
include a jigsaw puzzle game and a concentration game but most are based on
words. There’s an in-game dictionary which the player can refer to answer
questions such as “What is the first word in the category ‘Vegetables’ that
comes between the word ‘radiator’ and reason’?” and find mystery words that
match a supplied definition.
There is also a hangman style mini game, put words in alphabetic order,
complete a sentence by putting words into the correct places, a codeword
puzzle and more.
