Arctic Racer is the first approach of the Artifex Mundi studio specializing in casual productions to the genre of arcade car racing. The creators focused primarily on the spectacularity of the competition and twisted elements of the routes.
The action of the game was set in the future. Towards the end of the 21st century, a new sport – races of cars adapted to ride in polar conditions – became extremely popular. Equipped with rocket engines, the powerful monster-truckling races in the virgin areas of the Arctic.
The player has the opportunity to steer a total of six models of such vehicles – from the 800-horsepower Arctic Ram to the legendary Arctic Cruiser. Cars differ not only in appearance, but also in performance, driving characteristics and even resistance to damage.
The races are played in three modes – fast game, career and free riding. The creators have prepared a total of 19 maps, giving players a lot of freedom in choosing the way to reach the finish line. Orientation in the field is facilitated by a map and an arrow pointing in the right direction. Apart from competing with computer opponents, the participants can show off their skills of off-road driving and performing air acrobatics, or focus on the destruction of elements of the environment (e.g. igloo houses).
Arctic Racer audio-visual luminaire leaves no illusions about the low-cost nature of production. While the vehicle models look relatively good, the surroundings of the race tracks are quite monotonous.
