Apventure to Atlantis
Long before recorded history, there existed many races which were in battle
for dominance with humanity. Mankind invented weapons, magic, and ultimately
science to be on a level playing field with these physically stronger races.
The master of science was Atlantis, but with their technological prowess, they
became corrupt. The Atlanteans turned their power to the dominance of all
humanity, intent on stamping out all remnants of magic which threatened their
power. A great wizard known as the High One created an enclave known as Lapour
on the Island of Sargalo, from which magic users could gather their strength,
to one day challenge Atlantis’ dominance. But the High One was killed, and
their magic orb lost.
_Apventure to Atlantis_ is the direct sequel to _Odyssey: The Compleat
Apventure_. In the previous adventure, you reclaimed the High One’s lost orb,
and became Lord of Lapour. Now, it is your job to lead the magic users of
Lapour against the Atlantean menace, and end technology’s cruel dominance.
An early RPG/adventure hybrid, the game has several distinctly different
systems. All game play is through text input. The player starts out on an
overland map, and has to recruit wandering wizards by offering them spells, as
well as fighting random battles with indistinct monsters. The player can cast
spells by typing their name. The player eventually steals an Atlantean
ornithopter, and enters a separate game play element, where they can fly
between various islands on an open ocean. During this phase, this player can
be attacked by flying creatures, and lose the wizards they have recruited.
When a player lands on an island, or enters their castle, they enter a first
person view, typical of that seen in early adventure games. Players need to
collect clues and spells within these dungeons, as well as battling with
various denizens of these places. Eventually, the player must invade Atlantis
itself, and put an end to the Atlantean threat.
