Apple and Worm: Patching holes on spacetime is a puzzle platformer with unique mind-bending mechanics. It’s a 2d platformer but this 2d space isn’t your normal 2d space, it’s CURVED! The way curves are sprinkled around each level makes it connected in non trivial ways. For example, after taking a few turns you may find yourself back at the beginning of the level, but walking on the ceiling. The story, as far as I’ve made it, is about Apple and Worm chasing a bunch of inter-dimensional aliens that are creating holes on spacetime. Sounds interesting? play the alpha demo! Unfortunately it’s too large to upload the player to IndieDB, so it stays only on GameJolt for now.
Hi there! I’m glad you stuck around to read the second paragraph. I’m a physicist (well, a grad student at least) and hobbyist game developer, and in this game I’m mixing both my passions into one single creature. Besides the origin of the idea for this mechanics coming from a couple of years studying topology and differential geometry, the project will also feature in-game references to Isaac Newton and other great thinkers. Finding them is like finding the giant ring in Sonic 2, it leads to bonus content. In this case, it leads to Apple and worm explaining some physical or mathematical concept with cute and silly interactive illustrations. The player can replay the game to find all thinkers and unlock all “lectures”. The main point of the game is to be fun, not educational, so if that idea turn out to be boring I’ll ditch it (but how could it be boring? it’s PHYSICS).
I’m working on this mainly on my own while going through a PhD program, so progress is slow but steady.
