Amsterdam Street Racer
Amsterdam Street Racer is a single-player racing game which has a
multiplayer option via a LAN or the internet. Whether single player or
multiplayer the game is the same. The player starts with $500 and uses this
cash to enter races. The races need to be won to build up cash to unlock and
enter other races. The emphasis in this game is on speed and fun, the cars are
not customisable, there is no evidence of real-world physics being used and
the cityscape bears no resemblance to Amsterdam. The is a choice of six cars
to race in, none of which are locked, the races are:
* Street Race: this costs $100 to enter and in it the player has to race between two points five times, winner collects $500
* Drag Race: a straight line dash from point A to Point B, this race too costs $100 to enter but the winner only collects $250
The above races are unlocked at the start of the game. As well as an onboard
map the destination point is shown by a giant vertical purple column of light.
For each race there are three or four routes and the race is between two or
four cars. In addition to the buildings, street furniture and other cars the
races are made more difficult by the AI cars which aggressively try to run the
player’s car off the road.
The remainder of the races are:
* City Race: in this race the player must locate a hidden checkpoint within the city and be the first racer to find it and return. This costs $1,000 to enter.
* Final Mission 1 and Final Mission 2: these cost $47,250 and $9,000 to enter. Course details are unavailable until the player reaches these stages.
