Afterlight is an adventure game in which we play the role of an astronaut who is stuck on Titan – one of Saturn’s moons. The production offers an original story, dealing with the subject of mental disorders, as well as interesting graphic design (backgrounds and animated feature scenes are three-dimensional, although the game takes place in two dimensions). The Spanish independent studio Silent Road Games (creators of Last Train, Brayhir, Pocket Duels, Stranger Treasures) is responsible for creating this title.
### Plot
In Afterlight we play the role of Xin – an astronaut who, after a terrible accident in which all the other members of the band died, stayed alone on one of Saturn’s moons, Titan. The woman has to carry out the mission, which was the target of the expedition, on her own. But will it be able to cope with loneliness and loss? And does reality really look as it seems?
### Mechanics
In Afterlight we observe the action from the side – from the side-scroll perspective. The game is about exploring locations, finding objects and solving logical puzzles. As we make progress, we also learn more fragments of the story and develop the relationship between the heroine and the robot that accompanies her – a medical throne led by artificial intelligence.
### Game modes
Afterlight can only be played alone. The game does not offer any multiplayer modes – the basis of the game is a single player campaign.
### Technical aspects
Original graphic design is one of the greatest advantages of Afterlight. The graphics were made in the 2.5D convention – although we are dealing with two-dimensional production, the backgrounds create an impression of three-dimensionality. The unusual artistic style is inspired by the aesthetics known to the American architect Lebbeus Woods and combines subdued colours (most often different shades of brown), which are used to depict the location with sharp, distinctive reds and roses (e.g. shining neon lights or diodes).
Set in the 22nd century, Afterlight features an atmospheric adventure with action and puzzles on Titan, a distant moon on Saturn.
