Chaos arrived on the planet of Aryasan out of nowhere. Countless storms,
hurricanes and whirlwinds were accompanied by bizarre noxious rain. All of a
sudden, each and every living thing began to dwindle and wane, while the sky
dimmed ominously. The vegetation faltered and decayed as rivers, lakes and
oceans dried up at a frightening pace. The animals, deprived of their food,
began attacking each other. The spirits that used to look after the planet,
and had once radiated warmth and light, have now gone into hiding or otherwise
disappeared.
The inhabitants of Aryasan have also been tainted by Chaos. Various physical
and mental ailments, fear, unavailability of resources, and no sense of
security impacted the tribes in a catastrophic way. Mutual trust eroded, and
was replaced by hostility and aggression. Constantly erupting conflicts and
disputes quickly turned into open war. Since then the lands of Aryasan yielded
no crops and the water reservoirs remained dry. It would seem that all signs
of life have disappeared from the surface of the planet… but has magic?
Since time immemorial, there existed mysterious subterranean structures in the
heart of Aryasan. Many terrifying legends have been told about this place and
no one dared enter them for fear of discovering the truth behind these
stories. It was said to be the birthplace of magic; the good kind – the magic
which awakened the life of the beautiful planet, and the evil kind – the magic
which spawned powerful underground creatures protecting these mysterious caves
and underground passages at all costs. The legend has it that magical stones
can be found there and that they alone can bring life back to Aryasan.
Though it might seem that magic has lost most of its power on the planet’s
surface, I still believe it is not gone completely. Why? Because despite its
waning power it managed to preserve a life… my life. My name is Eremit. Why am
I here?. Am I the last of my kind? Will I be able to find others? Those things
I do not know. But I have been chosen for a quest of utmost importance – that
much I know for certain. It is time I embarked on it and revealed my entire
story to you…
